2004-2011

In 2004, when I first came to the center for 6th grade, I was a little girl and now after 7 years, I am proud to say that I have been molded into a bright young woman. ACLC has taught me how to manage my time, and work with my classmates on various assignments. ACLC was a new experience for me and after all this time I have finally mastered the study habits that work best for me.

Attending ACLC for the last 7 years has showed me how to work in an environment with a lot of freedom. The ACLC environment has allowed me to explore my interests beyond the classroom. It has opened my eyes to the many things out there that are available to high school students. ACLC has helped me realize that I can be a leader and if I want to change something or make it better I can achieve that if I set my mind to it. ACLC has given me a better understanding of the person I want to be.

During my high school years I realized that I can make a difference in my community, just by getting involved in various things. It wasn’t until my junior year that I really started trying to make a difference in the community, and I now know that it is really possible to make a difference, or at least try too.  Some more new basics that I have explored at ACLC are time management, after attending ACLC for so long I’ve really learned how to manage my time, it’s really important because the school is set up in a way that you really have to figure out a way to get all your work done or you’re going to fail.

The thinking and reasoning skills that I have practiced for the last few years have changed since I first enrolled in this school. Every time I get an assignment I get it in on time (excluding this essay), and even though sometimes I wait until the last minute to do the assignment I put my heart and soul into it, and try my best to do it correctly. My reasoning skills have improved in the sense that I always know when something isn’t right at school and when someone needs to be written up!

The second I walked into ACLC they started clumping us up into groups of our peers for class projects. This taught me how to work with my peers even if I’m not familiar with them, it also helped me to meet new people and build relationships with friends that have lasted since 6th grade. The friends I have made at ACLC are friends I hope to have for the majority of my life, they are truly magnificent people. During my junior year of high school I put on a fashion show for my FLI project, to put the show on I had help from all of my friends from ACLC and it would not have been the same without them. I believe that my collaborative ability will help me all through college work with new people and build new friendships.

As well as the teaching styles, the technology has really been a big addition to my successful schooling at ACLC. The technology given at ACLC is a big part of the freedom; the technology is a big part of time management in my opinion. To manage your time wisely you can use the computers to complete assignments at school instead of waiting until you get home, I personally am I big fan of the technology offered, even though the computers occasionally suck and don’t work and you can’t print your work out or even do it.

Well, to conclude this essay like I am concluding my time at ACLC I will say that ACLC has taught me many things, freedom, individuality, that there’s no such thing as democracy, and that anything is possible if you try hard enough. I thought it was going to be hard to leave ACLC but I can honestly say that I am so ready to get out of here and start my life next year at art school! Thank you ACLC for all that you’ve done, it’s been great.
